Trommel fines are fine materials that are screened out from a waste material using a Trommel screener, they can be broken down into two different types:
Lower Rate Trommel Fines
Lower Rate Trommel fines must be predominantly made up of glass, ceramics, concrete or naturally occurring rocks and soil. Testing is performed by Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd on all incoming fines materials that customers wish to pay lower rate tax on. Testing is performed in line with the legislation to ensure that the materials comply with the set limits/requirements.
If our sampling finds that the materials contain excess amounts of non-qualifying materials then the fines must be charged at the higher rate of tax.
Higher Rate Trommel Fines
Higher Rate Trommel fines are any fines that have been screened out from waste material and do not meet the requirements set for the lower tax rate and have not been receiving testing in line with the legislation and Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd's procedures.
