During January 2018 we were approached by the Swindon Advertiser to enter the 2018 Business Awards. The Business awards have been running for over 20 years throughout which a comprehensive process has been developed to assess local businesses.
The first step included the application of categories you wished to enter. This was followed by gathering information about the company how it evolved, what it does and where it all happens. We were asked about the business finances, development Strategy, our group structure, number of employee’s, recruitment, involvment in the community, our greatest successes and plans for the future.
We then received an invitation to meet the judges and talk to the sponsors of this event. At this point they had already read our application so had some insight to what all the businesses were about although this was an opportunity for them to find out more about us and the business we represent. It was also a chance for us to meet and network with other successful businesses. This was a very friendly and informal event and a pleasure to attend.
Shortly after this event we received confirmation of being short listed as finalists in all the categories entered. A site visit from the Judges was then scheduled.
The visit started by transporting the judges in our fire engine around the site, an on foot tour around our gasification plant and back to the main building for a Power Point Presentation giving a general overview of the business. This was followed by a Q and A session. We believe the whole visit was definitely an eye opener and very educational for all who attended.
At the end of April 2018 we attended the Gala Dinner held at Centre Parcs in Longleat. A very professionally organised event from start to finish. Arrival drinks and photographs, 3 course meal and of course the Award presentation itself. We were very lucky and won an award for Medium Sized Business and just as we thought that was it for the night the final biggest award was awarded to Crapper and Son Landfill Ltd, for Overall Excellence in Business. Wow! It had been quite a journey getting to this point. Not just through the application process and various steps to the awards but more so over the years in building and developing the business to even begin reaching this achievement.
We are very proud of our achievements and very grateful to accept the award and recognition for our work. We would like to thank all our loyal customers and staff in helping us reach this goal.
